LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A former Scott County, Indiana, sheriff and longtime associate of Jamey Noel is likely to plead guilty to tax evasion.
Kenneth Hughbanks is charged with one Level 6 felony for allegedly taking over $140,000 from his ailing godmother, who suffered from dementia, from 2019-2022 and not declaring it as income on his taxes.
Court records say his wife Lyndi Hughbanks was also involved in the scheme, but she has not been charged. Lyndi is a former member of the Scott County Council.
On Thursday, Hughbanks and his attorney filed a motion to set a change of plea and sentencing hearing. Hughbanks pleaded not guilty on April 22.
An official date for a new hearing has not been set, but Hughbanks does have a pretrial conference scheduled for Dec. 18.
