PHOENIX — A section of Southern Avenue in south Phoenix is expected to be closed for the next couple of weeks due to recent storm damage.
Maricopa County officials said the road will be closed in both directions between the areas of 47th and 45th avenues to allow for necessary repairs following the rainstorms that hit the Valley on Sept. 26. County officials said a nearby storm drain sustained damage during the heavy rainfall.
The road was originally expected to reopen after Oct. 2 but the closure has now been extended to last until
A 20-foot trench being excavated prior to the storm activity became flooded by the rainfall and crews must now dry out the trench.
To get around the road closure, drivers can take Broadway or Baseline roads.
