AUGUSTA, Maine — Secretary of State Shenna Bellows announced on Thursday that the No Labels Party is no longer a recognized political party in Maine.
Bellows said the group notified her office in June 2024 that it did not intend to remain a qualified party. At the time, state law provided no means for a party to withdraw voluntarily once it had gained official status .
The secretary introduced legislation to change that. The new law, which took effect Sept. 24, 2025, allows a party chair to dissolve the organization by filing a written request. The provision is retroactive to Jan. 1, 2024, which led to the No Labels Party’s disqualification.
