Police in Nanaimo say they are reducing their presence at two high schools, but that their investigation continues, after “unspecified threats” were levelled at the schools.

On Wednesday, Nanaimo RCMP placed officers at Wellington High School and Nanaimo District Secondary School, with one student telling CHEK News that they were limiting which entrances and exits people could use.

At the time, Mounties and School District 68 said police were there out of an abundance of caution following the threats. Their presence was lowered to just school police liaison officers at the two schools on Thursday.

In an update on Thursday afternoon, RCMP said they planned to further scale back their presence at the two high schools as their investigation continued.
