BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) - Following the government shutdown on Wednesday, Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham spoke on its impact on the local level.
Mayor Kraham says when the federal government shuts down it has a ripple effect on state and local levels because of the uncertainty. He says agencies can't respond to emails, funding requests, and programs are slowed down, and this is a cause for concern because sub-recipient agencies have to fund out of their own pockets, which could potentially shut programs down.
Kraham says what bothers him is that local leaders must keep their government open, and despite any disagreements he has with the City Council, they all work together to keep operations going.
