AKRON, Ohio (WJW) - Food banks across the country are prepping for more demand from federal contractors and employees who are now furloughed or forced to work without pay during the government shutdown.

In Ohio alone, as many as 80,000 government employees are believed to have been either furloughed or left without a paycheck by the shutdown.

If it continues long term, it could also impact thousands of others who have been helped by programs including SNAP and WIC.

At the Akron Canton Regional Food Bank, they are not sounding the alarm just yet.

"If it's a short shutdown, I don't think its going to be cause for a great deal of concern for the food banks or the people we serve necessarily. I understand SNAP benefits have already been allocated for the month of October and the food that
