ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - As federal workers deal with missing paychecks during the shutdown, many could need help with basic needs, like food. They could utilize resources like the Atlanta Community Food Bank (ACFB), where workers unload more than 500,000 pounds of food every day at their warehouse.

Atlanta Community Food Bank CEO and President Kyle Waide said 75,000 pounds of that inventory comes from the federal government and that if the government shutdown doesn’t resolve soon, many of the shelves could be empty.

That’s frightening news for Tequila Young, who visits the ACFB grocery in Adamsville every two weeks.

“The government needs to step up,” said Young.

Young said she needs food to feed her and her 8-year-old son.
