“The Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon wants to keep politics out of his program stating his aim is to maintain a more humor-centric approach.

During a recent interview with CNBC’s “ Squawk on the Street ,” the late-night comedian said that his show “has never been political” anyway.

“We hit both sides equally, and we try to make everybody laugh, and that’s really the way our show works,” Fallon said. “Our monologues are kind of the same that we’ve been doing since Johnny Carson was hosting ‘The Tonight Show.’ So really, I just keep my head down and make sure the jokes are funny.”

Fallon added that “The Tonight Show” has “great writers and we’re just trying to make the best show we possibly can and entertain everybody.” Viewers can stream the show Monday through Friday at 11:30 p.m. ET
