A street sweeper went up in flames on the north end of Steinbach early Thursday evening.
Ron Chausse is the Deputy Fire Chief for the City of Steinbach. He says his crews were called to the blaze just after 5:30 p.m. on Clearspring Road West between Enns Brothers and Big Freight.
He notes the street sweeper was engulfed in flames when they arrived, and his crews got right to work.
Though they were able to extinguish the fire quickly, Chausse says they will have to wait for the machine to cool off before it can be towed away and they can reopened the road to traffic. He estimates they should be able to clear the scene shortly after 7 p.m.
Chausse says the driver of the street sweeper was able to safely exit the vehicle and was not injured by the fire.
