BEAUMONT, Texas — The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has halted non-essential operations as the government shutdown enters its second day, while National Weather Service forecasting continues without interruption.
NOAA has paused research projects, website updates and social media communications. A message on the agency's Facebook page states, "this page will not be updated during the U.S. government shutdown."
The National Weather Service, which provides daily satellite and radar data, remains operational because most staff are classified as essential employees. The agency continues issuing severe weather warnings and watches, including hurricane alerts through the National Hurricane Center.
