Former Anchorage Mayor Dave Bronson will enter the crowded race for Alaska governor. Bronson made his announcement at the Westmark Hotel's conference center in Fairbanks on Thursday morning.

A Republican, Bronson joins 10 other Republicans and one Democrat in the 2026 election. However, during the news conference, he stated that he stands out as the only one with executive experience, having served as Anchorage mayor for three years.

"I love this state and I truly believe in its great promise," Bronson said during his news conference. "I believe in putting people first."

He said he wants to address what he called serious economic times ahead for Alaska if left untackled. Such challenges, he said, include the high cost of living, education, and housing.
