VICTORIA — As the NDP government prepares to push forward with legislation for the $3 billion North Coast Transmission Line, Premier David Eby says the province no longer requires industry to help pay for such projects in advance.

“Typically, when you’re talking about a major expansion of transmission like this, you would require that industry champion that and commit to that before you begin construction,” the premier told reporters.

“Historically we used to say, ‘OK, well, you know, you’re interested in building in B.C. Send your application into B.C. Hydro, pay this amount of money upfront and then in five years we’ll deliver your transmission line, hopefully five years, and then you’ll be able to get to work.”
