GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Central Nebraska nonprofits will soon be able to help feed people in the community with the help of some chickens from the Aksarben Stock Show.
The show wrapped up on Sunday, but like in years past, organizers take the broiler chickens shown at the event and get them butchered and frozen.
The Nebraska State Fair, which also runs the Aksarben Stock Show, said they partnered with the Heartland United Way to donate 179 broiler chickens.
The Heartland United Way reached out to their pantries, backpack programs and shelters that recently had received food during their Husker Harvest Days Food Drive.
