PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) -- It's the second full day of the government shutdown, and many government workers across the country have been sent home. While some are still at work, they may be without a paycheck.
Currently, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) screeners and Federal Aviation Administration air traffic controllers are showing up to work as they are deemed essential employees.
Gene Olson, director of airports for the Peoria International Airport, said it will be business as usual for travelers, but the federal employees will be without pay for the time being.
"What that means for them is that they're basically here not getting paid," Olson said. "It's no impact for the traveling public, but it's a big impact for them."
