LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — City officials on Thursday announced the Slow Down SoMa traffic-calming initiative, which will introduce temporary safety improvements at one of South Main Street’s busiest intersections, 15th and Main.

The improvements include a temporary medium built from large planters to visually narrow driving lanes, painted bike lanes to increase visibility for cyclists and additional greenery to make the streetscape more inviting.

The project aims to slow vehicles and create a safer environment for pedestrians and cyclists.

The installation begins Friday during setup for Fiesta en SoMa, when the streets are already closed for event preparation.

Local business owners say the project won’t just improve safety, but could also boost economic activity.
