PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - The federal government is urging a judge to reject Oregon and Portland’s request to block President Trump’s order deploying 200 Oregon National Guard members to protect the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility and officers in Portland.
In a court filing, Justice Department lawyers argue the President acted within his authority under federal law to call up the Guard in response to escalating violence against ICE officers and property. The government says protesters have assaulted officers, vandalized federal buildings, and threatened staff at their homes, creating what it calls a “danger of rebellion” against federal authority.
