CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - It’s easy to find information about breast cancer online. It can be just as easy to find misinformation.

April Ostendorf-Morris is an advanced practice nurse at the Saint Francis Breast Care Center in Cape Girardeau. She said she sees patients throughout their treatment journeys and beyond.

“There’s a lot of myths that we hear out there, and it’s time to separate the myths from the facts.”

Myth: Mammograms cause cancer

Ostendorf-Morris said some people are concerned the radiation exposure that happens while receiving a mammogram will itself cause cancer to develop.
