SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - The National Domestic Violence Hotline says an average of 24 people per minute are victims of rape, physical violence or stalking by an intimate partner in the United States.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness month.

Thursday night, the organization “Safe Place Siouxland” hosted a vigil to remember domestic violence victims.

Organizers say the purpose is to share resources and provide support for those who may feel like they don’t have anyone to help them.

The organization asked Taffy Zoelle to speak. Zoelle’s stepdaughter, Sarah, was murdered by her boyfriend in 2022 in an act of domestic violence.

During the vigil, a portion of the Sarah’s 911 call was read. During that call Sarah was shot and later died.
