CLEVELAND — Deep breaths, Tigers fans.
Your long regional nightmare is over.
Detroit’s historic collapse is now just a footnote.
After blowing the biggest division lead in baseball history, the Tigers got the Guardians back when it mattered most, settling the score on a winner-take-all Thursday at Progressive Field.
And now the redemption tour rolls on.
Remember that old song by The Temptations, “I Wish It Would Rain”?
On a sun-bleached afternoon, the Tigers — who will face the Mariners in the AL Division Series — made their Motown wish come true with a 6-3 victory that flipped fate on its head.
It rained, and, finally, it poured.
