Both chambers of the Legislature began this week's special session with a promise of civility, but some of that courtesy started to slip on the House floor Thursday.

Republicans and Democrats in the House of Representatives traded barbs and pointed fingers, with members of each side questioning the other side's behavior inside and outside the Roundhouse.

Rep. Doreen Gallegos, D-Las Cruces, summed up the discussion: “Today must be the day to air our grievances.”

Rep. Derrick Lente, D-Sandia Pueblo, noted the squabbling was eating up time in what was supposed to be a speedy special session. "We shouldn't take time in this way," he said. "Let's get back to doing the work of the people."
