IRVING, Texas — A beloved manager of Po’ Melvin’s restaurant in Irving was shot and killed Monday night on a DART train while returning home from celebrating his 53rd birthday, leaving the restaurant’s staff reeling from what they call an unimaginable loss.
Police identified the victim as Daniel Gormley, who had worked at Po’ Melvin’s for decades and served as its manager for the past several years.
“Po’ Melvin’s was his family. It was his life,” owner Melvin LeMane told WFAA. “He would come to work early and bring the staff donuts. It’s going to be impossible to replace him.”
According to an arrest warrant, Gormley boarded a DART train in Deep Ellum after celebrating his birthday. Around 10 p.m., he got into an argument with 27-year-old Christopher Akins.
