SCRANTON, Pa. — Jews in Scranton observed Yom Kippur from October 1st to 2nd.

The solemn holiday marks the end of the "Days of Awe, " a 10-day period that begins on Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.

In Scranton, Jews are observing the holiday by fasting for around 25 hours, starting at sundown yesterday.

After the attack in Manchester, Rabbi Daniel Swarts says it's important not to lose hope in times like this.

Rabbi Daniel Swartz of Temple Hesed says, "It's on people's hearts. It's a scary time, and it's a rough time, and it's hard to stay hopeful. But we're doing our best."

Rabbi Swartz reminded his flock tonight that Yom Kippur is an opportunity to be hopeful.
