BOSTON —

The Red Sox season came to end Thursday night in a 4-0 loss to the New York Yankees in Game 3 of the AL Wild Card series.

Walpole native Cam Schlitter threw eight shutout innings against his hometown team with twelve strikeouts and no walks.

He is the first pitcher in baseball history to do so.

For fans back home in Boston, a promising season came to a screeching halt as the bats went silent.

"Hit the ball, that's all i can say," one disappointed fan said.

"It took the Yankees having two players from Massachusetts to finally beat the Red Sox," another said.

The Red Sox face a long off season, with questions remaining in some key positions on the roster.

The Yankees will move on to the American League Divisional series to play the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday.
