BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Two Jefferson County agencies have teamed up to provide new books to a local elementary school.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the Kiwanis Club of Birmingham delivered new books to students at Brookville Elementary in Graysville on Thursday, Oct. 2, as part of their ‘Books Not Bullets’ program.

Through the program, the Kiwanis Club has donated books to the sheriff’s office to promote reading in Jefferson County schools.

“It is imperative that we stay connected to our youth because those relationships are vital to the success of Jefferson County,” Sheriff Mark Pettway said. “By focusing on the act of reading together, it seeks to ensure that children recognize the value and joy found in books.”
