SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — The Savannah State volleyball team set the record for the largest home crowd to attend a volleyball match for an HBCU on Oct. 2 at Tiger Arena.

The official attendance was 1,488. The crowd waited more than 90 minutes for the start of the match. Allen University had transportation issues, according to an athletic official with Savannah State. The original start time was 6 p.m., but the match started after 7:30 p.m.

Savannah State pleased the record-setting crowd, winning in straight sets. Savannah Everrett and Nayalah Smith led the team in kills with 13 and 12, respectively.

The Lady Tigers have won eight of their last 10 matches. Next, they face Central State on Oct. 10 at 11: 30 a.m. in the SIAC Crossover in Memphis, Tenn.
