One of the NFL’s top defensive players, Xavien Howard of the Indianapolis Colts , shocked everyone by deciding to retire in the middle of the season. After a particularly tough game against the Los Angeles Rams , he decided he was done. Howard shared an emotional message on Instagram. He penned with heartfelt gratitude that while he always loved football, his “dream has now changed.”

He wrote the reason for this retirement , “ My purpose has been fulfilled in this sport, but my kids are more important to me than football. I’ve had a hell of a career, and even though it’s ending in a unique way, I’m cool with that because for once I’m putting my family first and I’m proud and excited about that decision.”
