A helicopter has crashed at an airport in Sydney with multiple people on board.

One man has died and a teenager is in a critical condition.

The helicopter crashed onto a car on Birch St near Bankstown airport about 1.30pm on Friday.

One person was declared dead by emergency services on arrival.

They have yet to be formally identified.

A 19-year-old man was treated for serious spinal injuries before being taken in a critical condition to Liverpool Hospital.

Police said a crime scene has been established and an investigation into the cause of the crash will be undertaken by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB).

A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.
