PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A crowd of protesters was seen gathering outside the Portland ICE facility Thursday night as the city anticipates the arrival of National Guard troops in the coming days.

Despite remaining largely peaceful, the gathering of dozens of people seen outside the South Macadam Avenue facility around 10 p.m. had a tense atmosphere. People were heard shouting, others were playing music and some were just having conversations. There was also a group of counter-protesters, something that has not normally been seen at protests outside the ICE facility over the summer.

Portland has gained national attention in recent days, with President Trump calling it "war ravaged," which was also his reasoning for preparing to send 200 National Guard troops to the Rose City.
