A construction company wasted no time in demolishing the former Village Inn Pizza and the Tobacco & Vape shop building on Burkemont Avenue in Morganton to make way for two more businesses.

Village Inn Pizza recently opened its doors at its new location on Bush Drive in Morganton. Before the move, the pizza restaurant long occupied the building at 1016 Burkemont Ave.

On Wednesday, the former Village Inn Pizza came down and the smoke shop building next door was demolished on Thursday. A demolition permit for the building was issued to DDI of Hickory, said Jonelle Sigmon, public information officer for the city of Morganton.

Construction plans were submitted to the city of Morganton for a Chicken Salad Chick and Tropical Smoothie Cafe to occupy a new building on the property, according to
