Essendon captain Zach Merrett conceded his future remained unclear as he stood on stage and accepted a stunning sixth club best and fairest award on Thursday night.
It was a monster evening for club champion announcements as Isaac Heeney took out Sydney’s major award at a function more comfortable than the Bombers affair as Merrett’s proposed move to Hawthorn created clear tension.
