UTICA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) -- The case of a former Oneida County Sheriff's deputy who tried to set fire to the home of his girlfriend and her family will go to trial.
First reported by the Daily Sentinel on Thursday, October 2, former Oneida County Sheriff's Deputy Aaron Alshaman rejected a deal before Judge Robert Bauer in Oneida County Court. Acceptance of the plea would have resulted in a 20-year prison sentence.
Alshaman stands accused of four counts of second-degree attempted murder and one count of second-degree arson after an incident on Kellogg Road in Utica. While on duty with the Oneida County Sheriffs in April, Alshaman allegedly set his girlfriend's house on fire, which quickly became engulfed in flames.
