KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI — Comstock Township has seen a rising number of homeless people living within its borders since the start of summer, townships officials say.

Leaders want to establish rules before the issue grows out of their control.

“In July, I noticed that the homeless population had increased and the complaints from residents have increased with it,” Township Ordinance Officer Dakota Szczepanski said during a Monday, Sept. 29 meeting.

Calls for cleanup have been concentrated along the King Highway between South Wenke Park and the bridge at Sprinkle Road, he said.

Cleaning up litter from encampments has come to take up most of his time.
