Imagine going to the polls on election day to cast your ballot only to be told you’ve already voted by mail. You dispute that, claiming you never vote by mail, and never requested a mail-in ballot, but election workers turn you away regardless, essentially taking away your vote.
This happened to a voter in Lawrence who then went home to check video on his door camera. It confirmed his suspicions as it caught a campaign worker for City Councilor Fidelina Santiago stealing ballots from mailboxes. Santiago has since pleaded guilty to voter fraud charges and the city has cancelled mail-in ballots for the next election.
