Gus Poyet has defended Ruben Amorim amidst Manchester United's recent struggles, urging supporters to stop drawing comparisons between the club's current state and its glory days under Sir Alex Ferguson .

Amorim has found it challenging to steer United back on course following Erik ten Hag's departure last November, culminating in a disappointing 15th-place finish in the Premier League last season - albeit, with a largely inherited team.

The 40-year-old's difficulties seem to have carried over into the new campaign, with United languishing in 14th place in the league standings despite significant summer investments, including the signings of Matheus Cunha , Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko .
