Storm Amy is poised to batter England and Scotland on Friday - with families throughout the UK urged to prepare emergency supplies.
Storm Amy will unleash a bout of destructive winds on Friday evening and overnight, slowly subsiding through Saturday.
The Met Office issued an amber warning, commencing at 5pm on Friday: "Power cuts could occur and affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage. Damage to buildings and homes is possible, with roofs blown off and power lines brought down.
"Roads, bridges and railway lines may close, with delays and cancellations to bus, train, ferry services and flights. Flying debris could result in a danger to life.
"There is potential for large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties.", reports Birmingh
