For forty years, Rock Hudson left his mark on Hollywood as a leading man who tackled movies and television with charisma. Hudson, born Roy Harold Scherer Jr. on Nov. 17, 1925, rose to fame in the 1940s and 1950s, in films including 1949's 'Undertow,' 1951's 'The Fat Man' and 1952's 'Scarlet Angel.' He shot to stardom in 1954's 'Magnificent Obsession' and earned a Best Actor Oscar nomination for 1956's 'Giant.' Hudson went on to star in Westerns and romantic comedies throughout the 1960s before making the leap to television with roles in 'McMillan & Wife' in the 1970s and 'Dynasty' in the 1980s.
