PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha announced Friday that he will step away from politics at the end of his current term in 2026.
Neronha had been floated as a potential primary challenger to Governor Dan McKee.
He’s endorsed Keith Hoffman, his former director of policy, to be his replacement.
In an email sent Friday morning, Neronha said in part:
I am grateful to Rhode Islanders for electing me twice as their Attorney General, and for the encouragement of many to run for some other office in 2026. But attorney general is the only elected office I have ever been truly interested in, and politics for me was a means to an end, not an end in and of itself. After much discussion with my wife and sons, who stood with and spoke for me on that beautiful James
