PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A ban on gas-powered leaf blowers in Providence has passed its first vote by the city council.
The ordinance was proposed by Sue Anderbois.
The proposal would gradually prohibit city employees and contractors from using gas leaf blowers.
Residents could still use them, but only between October 1 and December 15.
It eventually aims to end the sale and use of them by 2033, with regulations beginning in 2028.
The proposed ordinance was introduced for the city’s environmental health and to transition to quieter models.
