Chief Justice (CJI) BR Gavai said on Friday that the Indian judicial system operates on the rule of law, there is no place for bulldozer action in it. The CJI was speaking at the Sir Maurice Rault Memorial Lecture 2025 held in Mauritius.
He said that in a recent judgment, the Supreme Court had made it clear that using a bulldozer against an accused is a violation of legal procedure. The CJI said-
The government cannot become judge, jury and executioner at the same time. Bulldozer rule violates Article 21 of the Constitution (right to protection of life and personal liberty).
