BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) -- The 30th annual SugarFest celebrates the sugarcane harvest season in West Baton Rouge. It's an opportunity to learn about local culture, music and history.
This year marks the first time the free festival will feature both posters and T-shirts showcasing the work of a local artist Alvin Batiste, whose bold style brings a unique energy to every piece. "'Cause you know I love those bright colors. I'm always, like, using a lot of bright colors and do all my little details," Batiste said.
The festival began in 1995 when West Baton Rouge Museum staff wanted to bring a celebration together for sugar making in Louisiana. Director of Programs and Partnerships Jeannie Luckett said this festival has done nothing but grow and grow.
