CURRITUCK, N.C. (WAVY) -- An 18-year-old is facing several charges following a high-speed chase on Highway 158, deputies said.

According to officials, deputies with the Currituck County Sheriff's Office received a tip about a Charger going 90 mph on Highway 158. Shortly afterwards, the vehicle passed a deputy at a high rate of speed, deputies said.

The deputy then attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the driver, later identified as 18-year-old Issaiah Ayres, failed to yield, leading to a pursuit. During the pursuit, deputies said Ayres turned off the lights on the vehicle in an attempt to avoid being caught.

Eventually, Ayres made a U-turn across the highway while at the rest stop on Highway 158, where he then turned onto Waterlily Road. The deputy was then able to ma
