Another New York City food era is melting away.

Morgenstern’s , the cult-favorite ice cream shop known for both classic crowd-pleasers and wild, experimental flavors, is officially closing its Greenwich Village flagship on October 12 .

The retro-chic parlor at 88 West Houston Street has been a downtown destination since 2018, serving up more than 80 flavors from cookies & cream to curveballs like pineapple salted egg yolk .

And for many New Yorkers, it wasn’t just an ice cream shop — it was a hangout, a late-night scoop spot, and one of the most creative dessert counters in the city.

Owner Nick Morgenstern , a former pastry chef at Gramercy Tavern and Daniel, first launched the brand on the Lower East Side in 2014 before expanding into the sprawling Greenwich Village
