BLACKSBURG — Virginia Tech running backs coach Elijah Brooks has enjoyed a luxury in recent weeks with multiple tailbacks getting the hot hand. It was Marcellous Hawkins on the ground and P.J. Prioleau as a pass catcher against Wofford, and then it was Terion Stewart as a bruising runner at North Carolina State.
Three tailbacks with distinct skills. Each provides the Hokies with a spark out of the backfield.
It’s not a bad situation for Brooks heading into the teeth of the Hokies’ ACC schedule.
“I think those guys have different skill sets and I think all of them are needed,” Brooks said after Wednesday’s practice. “So coming into each game, I never really know who is going to have the hot hand, but I trust that they’ll all go out and do a great job.”
