At least 1,000 feet must separate solar developments from nonconsenting properties and the centers of roads after the Allen County commissioners' approval today.
The decision comes after the Allen County Plan Commission originally recommended solar fields be built 400 feet away from nonconsenting properties and 200 feet from the centerline of the road.
The commissioners in August amended that recommendation to 1,000 feet from both. The Plan commission voted down those amendments last month, but as the elected body, the commissioners have final say and approved the 1,000 foot proposal today.
Trena Roudebush, senior government affairs associate with EDP Renewables North America, said the ordinance will make developing solar projects in the county difficult. EDP is still interested in deve
