A few more Mets coaches are out of a job, following a disappointing 2025 season.
On Friday, SNY’s Andy Martino, an MLB insider, first reported that “the Mets are not bringing back third base and infield coach Mike Sarbaugh.” Sarbaugh becomes the second member of the Mets’ coaching staff to exit after the season.
Later, he added that Mets bench coach John Gibbons was out, too.
“Mets bench coach John Gibbons told the team he is leaving,” Martino wrote, via X/Twitter. “He is not retiring. He likes Mendoza and told them he thinks it’s time for some new blood in that job.”
Shortly after Martino’s report, the Mets confirmed the news and added that pitching coach Jeremy Hefner and hitting coaches Jeremy Barnes and Eric Chavez “will not return” next season.
They also added that assistan
