ALTOONA, Iowa —
If you're going to Adventureland's Phantom Fall Fest this weekend, look out for Iowa's largest pumpkin.
Pumpkin carver Gus "Squashcarver" Smithhisler will start carving the giant gourd Saturday morning. Visitors can stop by Adventureland all weekend long to watch his masterpiece take shape.
Pete and Alba Caspers, of Peosta, grew the pumpkin, which weighed in at 1,409 pounds for the Biggest Pumpkin Contest at the Iowa State Fair — an all-time record.
The park is open from noon-10 p.m. Saturdays and noon-9 p.m. Sundays through the end of November.
