ELLWOOD CITY, Pa. —

A now former Ellwood City police sergeant has officially been charged with assault after shoving a 19-year-old to the ground inside a Sheetz.

Robert Magnifico, who retired in September, has been charged with simple assault, official oppression, tampering with public records, and unsworn falsification to authorities following the June incident which was caught on video.

According to officials, Police were initially called to the Sheetz on Fifth Street because two young men were being disruptive and asked to leave the gas station.

They initially left but returned after one of the men, a 19-year-old, forgot their phone.
