(CNN) – Apple has removed tracking apps that alert people about sightings of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in an area.

These types of apps have been available on Apple’s App store since the spring.

The removal follows a request from the Department of Justice.

In a statement, Apple said it removed the apps Thursday after communication with law enforcement.

Apple told the creator of “ICE-block” in an email that the app does not comply with its app store guidelines.

President Donald Trump and his administration have argued the apps pose a threat to ICE agents, which the app’s creator calls “patently false.”

The Justice Department, ICE and the Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond Friday to requests for comment.
