Coun. Brock Gorrell has officially resigned from his position representing the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands’s (TLTI) Ward 3, effective Sept. 30, the township’s clerk’s department confirmed on Friday.

Gorrell thus becomes the second TLTI councillor to resign in less than a year.

At the committee of the whole meeting on Monday, council will formally declare the Ward 3 seat vacant, in line with Section 262(1) of the Municipal Act. A report outlining options to fill the vacancy, either through a byelection or appointment, will be presented at the Oct. 14 council meeting.

Gorrell could not immediately be reached for comment on Friday.

Ward 3 takes in the southeastern portion of the township, an area that includes Rockport to the south and part of Charleston
