LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- A judge sentenced a former Las Vegas high school volunteer coach to life in prison as part of a plea agreement on sexual assault charges.
In August, Michael "Luke" Atwell, 73, pleaded guilty to charges of lewdness with a child under the age of 14 and sexual assault with a child, records said. As part of the plea agreement, Atwell agreed to a life sentence with the possibility of parole after 35 years.
In court on Friday, Clark County District Court Judge Eric Johnson sentenced Atwell to the terms of the agreement. Atwell would be well into his 100s should he still be alive at the time of his first parole hearing.
